Abeona’s Curriculum

Children’s joy and happiness is a big part of their learning. At Abeona, we encourage them to have fun as a part of their education, with child-led activities which are adapted to their abilities and interests.

Birth to 5 Matters

At Abeona, we use Birth to 5 Matters to support our implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Birth to 5 Matters reflects all of the learning and development aims from EYFS, however, it has been designed to go further; Birth to 5 Matters was created to respond to current issues in society, to meet the needs of children today, and to lay a strong foundation for their futures.

One of the core principles in Birth to 5 Matters is that the child is at the centre of practice. This means that we focus on them as a whole, their physical, social and emotional wellbeing, health and learning.

development
social and emotional

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The child is building a relationship as they engage with a familiar carer, sharing the experience in a relaxed and mutually enjoyable way. They are aware that their actions affect others and the reactions of others.

communication

Communication and

Language

The development of children’s spoken language underpins all seven areas of learning and development. Through conversation, story-telling, role play, and questioning that invites them to elaborate, children become comfortable using a rich range of vocabulary and language structures.

development

Physical Development

Physical activity is vital in children’s all-round development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy and active lives. By creating games and providing opportunities for play both indoors and outdoors, we help children to develop their core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness, coordination, and agility.

literacy

Literacy

We hope to inspire a life long love of reading in children. Through a combination of story-telling and real-life experiences, children learn to connect what they may be hearing and experiencing with written language, recognising the symbols that we use to represent sounds.

mathematics

Mathematics

We help children develop an interest in numbers and counting, making comparisons, sorting and matching objects, and beginning to recognise numbers and shapes. This is done through real life examples, helping them to build an awareness of numbers and shapes within their environment.

world

Understanding the World

This is focused on developing children’s sense of the world as a whole and how different parts of their learning can connect. We provide opportunities for children to use a range of tools safely and encounter animals, people, plants, and objects in their natural environments.

arts and design

Expressive Arts and Design

Children’s creativity is extended through their curiosity, exploration, and play. At Abeona Warkton, we provide opportunities for children to express themselves through dance, movement, music, and role play.

effective learning

Characteristics of Effective Learning

Children are powerful learners, right from birth. With hands-on experiences and on-going support, they are able to develop into curious, creative, resourceful, and resilient learners. At Abeona, we give children the space and freedom to follow their interests, supporting them as they explore and recognising the importance of letting them meet their own challenges and goals.
